In this 21st century, the whole world modernized itself to a great extent. The science and technology are very advanced and thus it is very useful to all the people all around the world. But in this modernized world, there are some problems faced by people while speaking. There are few people, especially children have some issue with delay their speech and thus face problems in their life. This problem should be taken care when the person is a child so that he can heal faster.

Delay in speech is often seen as a problem in the workplace of a person. So the person should be treated or trained from the beginning during his childhood days. Delay in speech is not a disease but if ignored it can lead to autism. Today there is lots of speech pathologist who help the children overcomes this disease. The speech pathologist set up different programs to help the children with their delay in speech.

What is a Delay in Speech?

Speech delay or alalia refers to the delay in the development of the mechanism that helps in the production of speech. Speech is a form of making sounds using different organs like the lugs, vocal chords, tough, teeth and the mouth. These sounds are later developed into a language so that the child can speak and express his feelings or his mind. Thus for them, the speech pathologists are here that can help them with their speech development therapies. Before treating the child, the speech pathologists run a couple of test to identify if the child is suffering from autism or other speech problems. Then they can identify the exact problems accordingly and start their treatment process. But they cannot suggest you any medicines because there is no medicine available which can cure speech delay.

What are the Signs of Speech Delay?

The child who cannot speak on time is facing a real problem. Here are some signs that will help one understand if a child is suffering from speech delay. They are as follows:

  1. If the child by his or her 12 months does not show any gesture- like waving, pointing or other things should be taken to a doctor.

  2. If the child by 18 months does gesture but not use any sound for communicate then you should consult with a doctor.

  3. The child may have trouble in understanding simple commutation request.

  4. In 2 years, the child is unable to understand direction then the child should be taken to a doctor.

These are some of the signs that will help one understand if the child is undergoing speech delay and needs treatment. Thus the child should be immediately taken to a speech pathologist.

Tips for Helping a Child with the Delay in Speech

Speech delay is very important and immediate actions should be taken before it gets problematic. Here are some tips for helping a child with the delay in speech. They are as follows:

  1. One should spend at least 40 minutes with the child playing and doing various types of other activities.

  2. One should teach some sign languages to the child which will make it more interesting for the child.

  3. Read interesting stories to the child and gain his attention towards it thus to make the child excited about the story and try to interact with him.

These are some of the tips that will be useful to one to help a child with the delay in speech. Along with the speech pathologist, one can also help a child by interacting with him. This can help a child overcome this delay in speech.
