Some Tips For The Better Functioning Of Industrial Dust Extraction Systems

An industrial dust extracting system collects the dirt or pollutants present in the air in the industries. It filters out impure particles present in the air and provides a safe and healthy working condition to its workers. The quality of the air is enhanced in the industries with the help of industrial dust extracting systems.

After the installation of the industrial dust extracting systems in the industries, you should also look after its maintenance for its availing the optimum productivity from the system.

Here are some tips that will help you with the better functioning of the industrial dust extraction systems.

  1. Use of the deflagration protection: For the better productivity of the industrial dust extracting system collecting combustible dust, it is best to get the system equipped with the deflagration protection. Deflagration protection ensures the safety of its workers. Venting is one type of passive deflagration protection. In this process, an explosion vent is formed when there is any chance of explosion and helps to exit the excess pressure and flame to a secured area. One can consult with the dust extracting system expert to get the perfect equipment for your system.

  2. Pressure points: You should have some proper knowledge and understanding of the pressure capabilities of the industrial dust extracting systems. If you have some proper knowledge about the pressure points, it will help you in specifying and selecting the perfect vent size for your system.  The pressure points are related to the deflagration protection.

  3. Protection of the ductwork: As per the standards, it is important to protect the ductwork of the dust extracting system. It is necessary to provide the ductwork with a flow-activated isolation valve in the downstream work areas.

  4. Keeping of dust in the hoppers should be avoided: Use of the dust extractor’s hoppers to store dust should be avoided. The hopper has its own work i.e. to process the collected dust to a storage container. Storing dust in the hopper can result in a potential fire or explosion risk. The stored dust in the hopper can also decline the work efficiency of the dust extracting system by clogging it.

  5. Use of safe filter change out: One should employ safe filter change out practices. It is not ideally safe for workers to enter the dust extractors to change the filters. It is risky to enter a dust extracting system while it is operating. As a safety measure, filters should be positioned at places where it is easy to change the filters without risking your life. Provision of simple, quick-open, heavy-gauge doors should be used as it provides faster and easier access to the dust extracting systems.

  6. Knowledge about when to change filters: Another important tip for the better functioning of the industrial dust extracting system is to have knowledge about when to change the filters. You should read the guidelines for the filters provided by the manufacturer. If the airflow through the system reaches a different pressure limit or when the pressure drops affecting the efficiency of the industrial dust extracting system, it is best to change the filters immediately.

  7. Prevention of fire: You should equip your industrial dust extraction system with a fire sprinkler system to prevent fire. You can also use vertically mounted cartridges in the system to reduce fire and deflagration. A vertically mounted cartridge is oriented to reduce the heavy loads of dust on the filters. You should avoid the use of horizontally mounted systems as the dust particles tend to get trapped at the top of the filters and may result in igniting a fire.

Even though industrial dust extraction system provides a healthy working system, one should be very careful in its operation. The dust extraction system should be well maintained. The filters should be changed if there is a problem and safety measures should be employed whenever it is operating.
